Why PV Nature?
Seagrass meadows are difficult ecosystems to certify under carbon standards due to the difficulty in calculating seagrass carbon and monitoring it regularly. However, seagrass is vitally important and we don’t let these challenges stop us from protecting it! Although seagrass carbon credits aren’t possible at the moment, we have found a solution that works for seagrass and for the local community.
Plan Vivo have developed a pioneering Biodiversity Standard called PV Nature which will give projects the opportunity to develop sustainable income for conservation efforts using high-integrity Voluntary Biodiversity Credits. Plan Vivo has developed a holistic and nature-positive approach to biodiversity crediting, ensuring that there is accountability, inclusivity, transparency and equitable sharing of benefits during all stages of the project.
By working with Plan Vivo to certify our seagrass conservation efforts we can help restore this degraded ecosystem by incentivising the local community to conserve, protect and monitor biodiversity in the local seagrass beds. As per Plan Vivos requirements, at least 60% of the income from biodiversity credits goes to the local community, enhancing local livelihoods from sustainable activities. Examples of what the profits were used for in our Vanga Blue Forest project include school materials and improving village infrastructure.
Why Biodiversity Certificates are good for business

Biodiversity credits are not offsets but instead are part of the Nature Positive movement. They are meant for the private sector to voluntarily increase their investment in nature conservation and provide an opportunity for forward-thinking companies and business leaders to get ahead of the curve and prove they value nature and people as well as the bottom line.
